In my group's recruiting model of "Find... Attract... Hire..." our sourcers use SM to Find top talent and also have top talent find us. We emphasize to our recruiters that while SM initiatives are important, their job is the relationship they build with the candidate. In a world where many offers are similar and competing, candidates often make their choice on the level of trust they have with their recruiter. Yes - we all need cutting edge tools in our box - but the relationship piece is often lost in the mix. Great reminder!

Hi webmaster - This is by far the best looking site I’ve seen. It was completely easy to navigate and it was easy to look for the information I needed. Fantastic layout and great content! Every site should have that. Awesome job

Thanks for the feedback. Keith, you raise a great point about how the needs and preferences of our inner circle and coveted relationships may evolve.

And Victorio, time is a big issue. I think finding that balance and determining the right numbers of tools in the toolbox will prove to be an ongoing challenge. What is the right number of networks and/or solutions suite for a business will continue to be a very relevant and important discussion.

Great post!

Success (financial or otherwise) does depend on the relationships you have with others. for me, having a presence online has been a great benefit to me. I've established connections with smart, creative, and generous professionals from around the world. As a result I've increased my knowledge in different subject areas and my passion for my profession has grown.

The main drawback for me regarding social media is one of time. I find that I've reached the limit in terms of how many communities I can be a part of and still remain engaged. I now have to make some tough choices as to which ones I'll remain committed to and which ones I'll have to let go of.

Great point, one word of caution to your example, if people start moving to other channels for building relationships, your example might have to move also. If the people he has built with want to connect in the social space online in between the face to face and email, the example will evaluate connection paths also.

I agree though it is all about the relationship and jumping into social media with a relationship strategy helps tremendously to define the end in mind for you personally or for a business.
