Thanks for stopping by and sharing the insights Vince! The 5-6 year curve does offer up an interesting consideration relative to career progression and success. And a real prompt to companies relative to making every effort to retain high potentials beyond that inflection point to realize the benefits of the next level of performance. And appreciate the tip on checking out the acceptance speech.....I am ready to see U2 again when they make their way to the Twin Cities next summer!

Oh, and one other thing - in a very focused career (say 70% of the time working from, and developing, strengths), I worked out that 10,000 hours takes somewhere between 5 and 6 years to achieve. It puts an interesting lens upon career inflection points - and I can pinpoint that shift in most (if not all) of the career counselling/coaching I've done over the years.

Hi, Ryan - first of all, the 360 tour was amazing - we caught it in Boston and it was everything I hoped for. What I saw was a tight family relying upon each other through years of trust-building - if you haven't done so, it's worth reading Bono's acceptance speech from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to see the lengths to which that trust has been stretched, and in which it formed.

Laurie - U2 are trading on their current glories - proof positive in the set-list from 360, which include ALL of the new record as well as highlights from their history - but notably missing some of what I would think of as THE U2 songs.

I think he has a ways to go... Check out the show they did live on YouTube from LA....10 million viewers! And I don't think he'll trade the former fame....maybe leverage into the new platform - giving back (ok, I am a big fan)....but even if you don't love the music its an amazing live show!

Even rockstars get lazy and trade on their former fame & glory.

Paul McCartney
Mick Jagger
The dudes from The Who

When does Bono fall into this category? Is he there already?
